My Lavender Rapunzel Gown & Magical Cruise Formal Night
There are moments on a trip that you know will stick with you forever, and my formal night on the cruise was definitely one of them. I’d been daydreaming about this evening for months, and when I finally slipped into my lavender gown, I knew it was going to be special. This dress wasn’t just fabric and sequins to me — it was the reason I felt like a princess for a night.
I picked this soft lavender gown with delicate leaf embroidery and shimmering sequins, and from the moment I saw it, I pictured myself wearing it on the cruise. At 5’3” and 135 lbs, I went with a size 10, and it fit me so beautifully overall — the silhouette was so flattering, the tulle skirt swished perfectly when I walked, and I couldn’t stop twirling in front of the mirror. The only tiny thing? There was a slight bit of gapping at the bust, but nothing that took away from how amazing I felt in it.

Now, I have to be honest — as magical as the night was, there was one small hiccup. The beading around the underarms started to feel a little uncomfortable as the hours went on, and by the end of the night, I had a few little marks to prove it! But honestly? It was totally worth it.
The best part of the night? All the sweet compliments I got. Multiple people told me I looked like Rapunzel in my long lavender gown, and that made my entire trip. It felt like such a perfect, whimsical match to the dress — and I’ll be grinning about those comments for ages.

I was also so impressed with how the dress traveled. I packed it in my suitcase for our 10-day cruise, fully prepared for some major wrinkling, but it held up like a dream. A quick steam in the stateroom and it was good as new, sequins and all. It made traveling with a formal gown so much less stressful than I thought it would be.

When I stepped out into the ship’s glowing atrium, with all the golden lights and soft music around me, I felt like I’d stepped into a fairy tale. The photos from the night captured that magic perfectly — the sequins catching the light, the tulle floating around me, and that huge smile I couldn’t wipe off my face.

As the night wound down, I sat on our balcony, still in my gown, watching the ocean glow under the ship’s lights. I kept touching the sequins, thinking about how happy I was with this dress, even with its tiny flaws. It wasn’t perfect, but it was perfect for me.
This gown made me feel confident, beautiful, and like the main character of my own little story. I already can’t wait to find another special occasion to pull it out again — it deserves to see more dance floors, more sparkly lights, and more moments where I feel like Rapunzel for the night.
If you’re on the fence about a dress that feels a little whimsical or different? Go for it. The compliments, the confidence, and the memories you’ll make in it are more than worth it.
